Folder view won't hold.

This is a simple problem yet very frustrating.
I want and set my folder views to "Icons or large Icons" and no matter what
I do as soon as I leave any folder the view settings default back to list.
List takes too long for me to rapidly seek out what I need.
I have checked all relevant settings (That I can think of) and this still
keeps happening to all folders on all drives (approx. 1TB of storage.
I need suggestions....thanks.
