I have a small home network with an XP Pro system, XP Home system and Win
98SE system. Question is: I want to share my user ID folder in the
Documents and Settings folder in the XP Pro system with the other systems.
I set the share options correctly (I think) but cannot access the folder
from the other PCs. I can access the GUEST and ALL USERS folders just fine.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

There are 2 sets of security on NTFS partitions. Share and
File. It sounds like you've set the share permissions
correctly, but not the file permissions. Files in
documents and settings have permissions only to the NTFS
user on the machine. You need to allow All Users and or
Anon users full access to this directory.

If you did not use Simple File Sharing, the permissions on the files within
the directory are different than the permissions on the share. You will
either want to authenticate to that share with your user account on that
machine or give the Guest account read permissions to the folders and files
you want to see from the other machine explicitly. This can be done from
the Security tab on the folder/file property page.
