Folder opening on startup

Every time windows (XP Home) starts, the folder C:\Program Files\Common
opens. I can't find any reference to this folder in MSCONFIG or the StartUp
folder.
What is causing this folder to open?

I think so...

You're probably not using an English version of XP..Am I right? In
Sweden, were I'm from, the default installation folder is "C:\Program\"
instead of "C:\Program Files".

If a program installs to "C:\Program Files\"- folder, it will open that
folder every time Windows starts! It's because Windows treats the path:
"C:\Program Files" as an executable file, which it of course isn't ;-)

What you need to do is to open "Regedit", go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
there look for any reference to "C:\Program Files\Common"

If and when you find it, just put a " on both side of the path to the
file that run at startup. Remember to include the .exe file in between
the "....whatever it's called in English...*LOL*

This "trick" should do the trick.
God luck and be careful in the Registry!!

I am using an English version of Windows. When I opened Regedit and navigated
to the string you mentioned, there was no reference just to "C:\Program
Files\Common".

I've never seen any path like the one you've mentioned! It should be
"C:\Program Files\Common Files"

Please look again. If the reference isn't there, check your "Autostart"
folder. There ought to be a executable file too...

Look for: C:\Program Files\Common Files\filename.exe
To me it sounds like a installation gone wrong and maybe referring to a
file that not exists.

Happy hunting and please let me/us know your results!

I was able to resolve the issue by renaming the folder. Still don't
understand why it was opening, but I'm glad it's been resolved.
