folder names

In a new system using XPpro, in "my pictures", the folder names suddenly
disappeared. I can see the name by hovering cursor, and can change the name,
but I CAN'T SEE IT!
In the subfolders there's no problem.
What's the deal??
 
Hold down the shift key when switching to thumbnail view to hide the file
names. Do it again to bring them back.
