Jeff

I've posted this before, but no answer - so I'm trying
again:

When I right-click a drive or a folder and go to
Properties, nothing happens. However, when I do the same
for a file, the properties window appears as it's supposed
to.
Also, Right-clicking and selecting the "Sharing" tab on a
drive or folder also does nothing.

And, I've discovered that if I go to Control Panel:
Settings: Users and Passwords, and deselect "Users must
enter a user name and password to use this computer", and
reboot, I then can view drive an folder properties, and
set file-sharing. But of course, then my computer is not
password-protected, and anyone can get on it. I don't
think it's supposed to be that way. I've used Win2K Pro in
an office before, and was able to use all the funtionality
of properties and password protection.

Any ideas what the problem might be...and how can I fix
it? Thanks.

Alright, I'm going to answer my own question.

It seems that Norton Internet Security plays a role
somehow. I found that if I disable NIS and NAV at Windows
startup, and then enable them both AFTER Windows 2000
boots up, I am able to view properties.
I'll just have to remember to enable my internet firewall
and antivirus protection EACH TIME I boot up the computer.
Supposedly, Win 2000 is better than Windows 98 - but
Windows 98 never gave me any problems. Oh well.
Hope this helps anyone who is also experiencing this
problem.

Since the condition seems to be related to NIS & NAV I would check
Symantec's website for help about the issue.

Windows 98 has NO user or file system security so this sort of problem
would never occur in Win98.
