How to disable folder sharing?

From Win Explorer properties, Sharing tab, I can select and apply "Do
not share this folder" (for my entire C: drive). But when I reboot,
this setting reverts to the "Share this folder" setting. The same is
true for other hard drives I have installed. How can I make "Do not
share" permanent?

If I try changing the share setting in Computer Mgmt\Shared Folders
\Shares, I get a MMC message saying "This share was created for
administrative purposes only; it will reappear... after rebooting."

I'm running W2K SP4 on a stand-alone system using a LAN connection for
internet access only (no other network connections set), single
partition on all drives, and simply want to disable sharing for
security purposes. Am logged on as the sole Administrator, no other
user profiles set.

The only workaround I see is to add my Administrator account to Shared
Permissions, and then change the access settings for all other users.

It seems you do not want to disable folder sharing in general;
you just want to prevent the administrative folders C$, D$ etc.
from being shared. It's done here:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
Set the value of AutoShareServer to 0
Set the value of AutoShareWks to 0

Thanks; found an easier way shortly before deleting the original post:
in Network Connections properties, uncheck File and Printer Sharing
for MS Networks. What i want to do shouldn't require a regedit, just a
menu tweak.
