Floppy Drive missing from the My Computer folder

In Win. XP, the floppy drive is no longer found in the My Computer folder.
Floppy drive comes on only during boot. Device manager shows error 39.
There is evidence of a registry problem. I followed procedure shown by
Microsoft Article ID : 812489 .

After I located the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E980-E325
11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} , I was not able to find upperfilters or
lowerfilters in the right hand pane. If anyone knows where they are,
please help !!!

it may be simply going bad. floppy drives were built not to last....

do they still make floppy disks???
