flashing cd symbol

hi can anyone help i have just got a new system with
windows xp, but what does the the flashing cd symbol
next to my mouse pointer mean and how do i get rid of it

It usually means you've put a CD (or DVD) in the drive and
Windows is attempting to autorun it. If the format on the
drive is unusual, indecipherable or blank, it may blink
that symbol next to the mouse cursor for awhile . . .

It indicates that you just put a disk in the CD or DVD drive, and
autoplay is spinning it up and deciding what to do
