flash sound

I am getting no sound from flash media on the web also
shockwave such as shockwave games and such. Also the
event sounds (shutdown, startup, minimize.etc) don't seem
to be working either. If I play games and such sounds
work fine. I can also play cds and mp3s with no
problems.. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
