Lost sounds for Microsoft XP & IE

For some reason, I can not hear audio on web pages through IE or the standard
Microsoft sounds menu. We can play CDs in Windows Media Player with no
problem. I have uninstalled and re-installed Adobe Flash & Shockwave Flash
and have even re-installed latest IE v 7.

Can any body assist? We have a Dell Dimension 4300. Thanks!

Take a look in Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices. Make sure no
mute boxs are checked and the sliders are at least half way. Try
reinstalling your Audio drivers. They
should be on a software CD or you can get updated ones at Dell's
website.
