Flahing/blinking Windows!

Hi,
I only recently aquired my labtop and have recently come across a
problem, everytime I open a window (such as My Documents, My Computer, or any
other application, such as Internet Explorer. The window (and only the window
head and tab at the bottom of the screen)blinks, as if refreshing. It is very
annoying, and is creating problems when browsing through folder and when
browsing online, can anyone suggest anything that might help?

If your "recently acquired" laptop is under warranty. Use your warranty. As
a WAG, it sounds like you may have a video driver issue, but rather than
trying to sort it out on your own, I'd (if I were you) be taking the laptop
back to the vendor or ( if too late for that) contacting the manufacturer to
have them correct the problem or replace the laptop.
If you do wish to pursue it yourself, you need to provide details. What make
and model laptop? Which edition of Vista? Did the laptop come with Vista
preinstalled? Are you running Aero? etc.

Never happened to see such behaviour on Vista, but it sounds like a graphics
driver issue.
See if newer ones are available via Windows Update or on the Website of the
maker.

Sidenote to others with "blinking probs" online:

If this happens only online and you have Adobes Flash plugin installed plus
a preview copy of SP1 for Vista then yes, it's a Vista SP1/Flash issue -
happened to me, and forces me to uninstall flash.

Hi,
Have you installed a third-party program which might be causing this?

What's running in the Notification Area (systray?)

From Start> Run> (type in) msconfig> Startup tab, uncheck non-essential
programs then restart. Research unknown startup items via Google or another
serach engine.

It might be worthwhile to test for an incompatible shell extension with
ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows:

Hope this helps,

I have struggled with this for about a year - it's been driving me
nuts!

There are numerous references to it on the net, and a huge variety of
solutions, which seem to work for some people, but not for me.

Eventually, last week, I found one that works on my system.

Go to computer management, click on services, and disable the shell
hardware detection. It has completely stopped the blinking on my
system, and the only downside seems to be that autoplay has stopped
working.

Hope this works for you...
