i tried to fix a weird blank desktop situation by
repairing (prompted from the install disk) my windows
installation. big mistake. now windows on this harddrive
hangs and gives me the blue screen of death on startup
(stop: 0x0000001E...KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED).

so i put in an old trusty hardrive, installed 2000 on it,
hooked up the above drive with the startup problems, and
can now access it no problem but i don't know how i can
fix the boot record on it. will fixboot work or screw it
up? what about fixmbr? are there any step by step links
out there or quick fixes? any help would be greatly
appreciated...

Boot your machine with your Win2000 CD, select Repair
when prompted, then select "Repair boot environment".
