Fix friend's 555 AUDIO MP3 player?

I am trying to fix a friend's 555 AUDIO MP3 player which displays No Music
on its small screen. Plugged into my Hp M370n Mce2005 via USB, I see G drive
properties of used 257MB with 235MB free space. Because there seems no way to
format memory using the device itself, there being no option in Mode settings
that would allow this, I am trying to deal with data using my PC. I was able
to copy 91.1MB of .MP3 & .WMA songs before the copy operation failed on a
particular object. Used Google to try a usb driver for 555 Audio which was at
the Win 98/ME level. This did not solve my inability to format or delete
objects from the device. I can do a disk scan with standard Error Checking
tool which completes but bad sector recovery/fix system errors does not.
Format Removeable shows Fat32 but neither quick nor standard format work,
though green progression indicator seems to go to completion, failure occurs
at the end. Extraneous data that I see on drive includes Settings.dat 1KB,
Wmpinfo.xml 0KB and a folder named Found.000 also an MP3 song that I copy
pasted to drive, which are results of my attempts. So it is possible to write
to the thing.
Hoping that someone can cast some solution on this problem.

I would recommend upgrading the firmware for the MP3 player, this should
solve the problem. Directions and firmware link can be found on the
manufacturer's website. Most people also do not directly load music onto the
device, many recommend using Media Player 11 (but not 10) to complete this.
