first impressions

After reading this group for several weeks, I installed MSAS. I have been
using SBS&D and Ad-Aware for sometime so my comments are from that
background.

1. When it updates, it would be nice to have progress bars that let up know
how the download is doing. Most MS downloads have them, SBS&D has them, and
so does AD-Aware. They are all different but at least you know if it is
fast or slow and if something is happening.

2. I do not think my installation is working. When I click scan, the MSAS
screen turns blue with some white. The name is at the top with the three
buttons at the upper right. When I place the cursor over the blue/white
screen, it stays an arrow. It does not turn into an hourglass. Under
options, I have tried full scan and quick scan. When I click the Spyware
Scan button in the upper right, the screen comes back with the note "you
have not run a scan yet." I click the blue scan not button with the arrow
and the cycle repeats. The blue/white screen comes back. How do I know if
the program is running? I have tried this 6 times and waited 10 minutes
before trying again.

Have you told MSAS which drives to scan?

Scan Options, Full System Scan, Scan Drives / Folders and right click on
yellow icon.

Hope this helps.

Since my last post, I removed MSAS, made a fresh download, and reinstall.
Same problem as my first post. I am not using Norton and turned of my AV
and teatimer before the install.

I guess that MSAS does not remove cleanly because my previous settings were
still there for my second install. I have since removed MSAS again and
searched for other MSAS file locations. I removed the folder in Programs
and the one in Windows Downloaded Installation. Does anyone know of other
files or registry keys that should be deleted.

Maybe I will try Bata 2 or wait for the final release.

No one on this forum answered but I did find the registry info posted on the
installation forum. There are a lot of keys.

When I looked that forum, I found that others have the "will not scan"
problem. Maybe MSAS final release will fix it so it will work for all of
us.

Good luck MS programmers.

We need to realize that MSAS is still in its infancy and will only get
better with the feedback posted to the news groups. I hope to see some great
improvements by beta 2, especially with hibernation and shutdown issues on
laptops.
