Firewire won't detect devices

Please help. I have installed Firewire card and it is recognized by XP. When
plugging in any device, (I've tried both IPOD and DV Camera), plus installed
software -drivers for each. In any case nothing happens at all. There is no
recognition that the device is connected. In the case of the IPOD, the ipod
is getting power and will light up, charge etc. I've tried a few different
firwire cards, with the same result. I've actually changed motherboards with
one that has firewire on the board, reinstalled xp, etc. with the same
result. ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Instead of having XP install a default driver, have you tried to get an update
driver from the Firewire manufacturer's website? Especially for the new mobo.

Yes. I've installed all drivers possible. However, both the mobo manufacturer
and the card manufacturer did not list drivers. In both cases they refer you
to microsoft for the firewire drivers.

Are you using SP2 ? If yes SP2 has it's own Firewire drivers, and they pose
problems with many hardware ( have had problem with my external Maxtor Hard
Disk). There is a procedure to replace them with those of XP or XP SP1. If
you are using SP2, tell me and I'll give you the link to a webpage explaining
the steps to help SP2 recognize your hardware.

I've run into the same problem. My wife's laptop is running the first version
of XP Professional and when I installed the firewire card, XP recognized the
card, but not the CD burner. We are using a QPS Que-Fire model.

Lacking a fix, is there any way to convert a device from firewire to USB,
using a hub or something else?

Thanks.

I am experiencing a similar problem with a QPS Que-Fire CD burner. I am using
the first version of XP Professional on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. The
computer recognizes the firewire card, but not the burner.

If a fix is not available, can a firewire device be converted to USB, via a
hub or other means?

It didn't work with SP1 or SP2. However, if you would be kind enough to give
me the website, I'll give it a try. I'm willing to try almost anything at
this point.
