Firefox & Thunderbird

I downloaded remover.exe and ran that software. At the end
of its scan, it says my hosts file is affected. So I looked
at it, and sure enough, the first line says 127.0.0.1
localhost, but there are at least 3 dozen lines that says
127.0.0.1 www.ad-something.. and many more. So I deleted
all but the first line. Still having the same javascript
running problem.

Congratulations. :-/
You've just invited more ad/crapware to your PC.
Lines a la "127.0.0.1 www.ad-something" in hosts file prevent
your browser from ever seeing the "www.ad-something".

It takes both these programs 10 seconds to load. Not a big deal with
Firefox, but the 10 second delay is a bit much just to check your
inbox.

I used Firefox for a few months. Uninstalled Firefox and Thunderbird
and went back to I.E. with Maxthon, and Outlook Express. No problems.

My solution to this was DM2. Make Firefox and Thunderbird floating
icons rather than shutting them down. See here:

Firefox takes 13 seconds to open for me, IE takes 7 seconds. Sticking
with Firefox though as it renders pages quicker.

So use Poppeeper (http://www.poppeeper.com/) to monitor whether you
have mail, and what it is, then use Thunderbird to open it when
necessary. That's what I do with hotmail and Gmail.

Hi Larry
Thanks for the suggestion. I think your reply was more directed at
west488.

I only use the Firefox browser though, not Thunderbird for email. Still
using Outlook for that. I don't mind the start-up time on Firefox
anyway. Got used to it. :-)

Whoops! Sorry about that!

I still use Maxthon, in spite of trying Firefox and Opera. Just can't
get them to come close in terms of tab and other functionality, or web
pages don't display or work properly. It's a shame, because Opera is
super fast. For news, I use an off-topic version of Agent.

Cheers,
Larry

HiLarry
No problem!

I actually prefer Avant. It's similar to Maxthon. I was finding Avant a
bit unstable though so am trying Firefox. With the Tabbrowser
Preferences plugin I've got it working like Avant and it does seem to
render pages faster so will stick with it for now.
