Firefox and Photoshop have always been crashing on my comp!

Hi,

Ever since I bought a new computer in the summer of 2005, quite a few
applications never run on it without crashing sooner or later.

The main two applications which have been a thorn in the side have been
Firefox and Photoshop.

My system configuration is as follows:

- Pentium 4 3.0 GHz
- Transcend RAM, 2 x 512 GB
- MSI 915G Motherboard
- Windows XP Pro SP2

I've tried many things to solve this:

REINSTALLING: I've reinstalled the applications again and again, tried
older versions and STILL they crash on running for some time.

I've also done many reformats of my harddisk and reinstalls of Windows
XP.

Please suggest a solution to this problem. I would really appreciate
it.

Well, firefox and photoshop aren't Microsoft apps, why should they work?

hehe, just playing with you.

But seriously, I know you may be a fan of firefox, but wait until you get a
load of IE 7. It blows FF right out of the water. It has EVREYTHING firefox
has(tabs actually work better), plus a bunch of really cool and more usable
features like the adaptable search tool.

I have never had an issue with photoshop crashing a PC. I would be inclined
to agree that a mem test is in order, or a visit to adobes help forum.

I started to have Photoshop 6 crash after using it for about 7 months. After
checking the event log, I found out that Photoshop started crashing after
installing the latest Adobe reader. I uninstalled Photoshop and the pdf
reader then re-installed Photoshop and used the pdf reader that shipped with
the Application. I think it was Adobe reader 4.0 and have not had any
problems since.

I have the latest Adobe reader (7.0.7) and Photoshop 6 and no crashes.

DL,

What are event logs?

The memory should be good. But I'll run the memory test as you said
anyway.

Thanks,
Rohit

Also, I guess I need to clarify something --

By "crash", I mean these apps usually go into Not Responding mode and
the windows turn white. But if I wait like forever then they come back
to normal.

Usually, I end up closing them or "End Task-ing" them.

So there are no Error Messages as such.

Because of the above symptom, I'd always suspected a memory problem.
But even after changing the RAM and trying out different swap file
settings, the problem still persists.

If any of you know what causes the above symptoms, please let me know!

Hi Everyone,

I found the soulution to my problem --

It was an inherent problem with the BIOS.

So I downloaded and installed the latest version of my BIOS and flashed
it.

Now everything works fine.

Thanks for all your help and support!
