Files will not play on portable device

I am creating wma and mp3 files through Windows Media
Player 9. My portable DVD player does not recognize the
files. My portable DVD player will play mp3 files that I
created on my other computers using Creative Soundlab.
Why is this and how can I fix it? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you burning them onto a CD-R? Very few players will recognize MP3s on a
DVD-R.
