Files that Run on Startup

Winows XP Professional - Dell Latitude Laptop. Using
MSCONFIG I noticed several files run on startup. I am not
sure what they are for:

baasctray.exe, carpserv.exe and ctfmon.exe.

Any idea what these are?

You can find clues for yourself by:

1. Searching for these files using XP's serach function to find where
they are. You can often tell from the folder they are installed in to
what product they belong.

2. Once found, right mouse click on the file and look at the
properties. You'll be able to find information about the executable
(who made it, version, etc.).

3. Search on Google for these file names. Likely that if they are
nefarious programs (worms, viruses, etc.) they will show up on search.

Try Googling the Newsgroups to see if anyone else has asked and answered your

Do a search on your system (not in Google) for the files
mentioned except ctfmon.exe, this I know is a file
installed by Office XP because you installed it with the
language feature enabled.

Once you find where those files are, look into their
properties (Right click, Properties) and according to
this deduce if those are programs you "need" your system
to run at startup. My guess is it does not!

The only way to get rid of ctfmon.exe is by deleting it
FIRST from the DLLCache folder in System32 and then from
the System32 folder itself.
Do not worry, it is safe to delete.
