Files & Setting Transfer Wizard Problem

I'm trying to replicate my outlook configuration on one machine from
another. I've ran the wizard on the original pc and selected only the
settings that I want to port across.

I copied the 'USMT2.UNC' folder and its contents across to the new pc, and I
ran the wizard again. When I browse to the USMT2.UNC directory and select
it, I get an error dialog appearing:

"The location that you specified does not contain stored information. Please
type a valid folder path into the edit box"

The folder contains a Status file and a IMG00001.DAT file.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Chris

Normal human logic on how FSTW works will fail. Start on the NEW
computer following the steps on this MS technet note:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/mgrtfset.mspx

I think I see what you mean....!

OK, I'm now halfway through the process, but I think I have another problem.
When I ran the wizard from the OLD machine, it allowed my to transfer my
'Microsoft Office' settings which I took to include my email settings (which
is what I'm really interested in). However, when I run the wizard from the
new machine first, when I choose which settings to transfer, Microsoft
Office is not there are an option.

1) Do these Microsoft Office settings include the Outlook information?
2) If so, why doesnt it appear as an option when I run the NEW wizard on the
OLD machine? [Is it to do with the fact that the NEW machines Outlook is not
configured for any maill accounts yet?]
3) If not, how best to I copy Outlook email account settings from machine to
machine?

Thanks

Chris

I have the same problem after reinstalling WinXP (clean) without reformatting
the entire drive - FAST Wizard will not read the image file made before the
reinstall or an older one on a CD-R.

I reviewed the referenced step-by-step guide. If I copy all the folders off
the PC, install WinXP with disk reformat, install SP2, copy all the non-WinXP
folders back, reinstall all the WinXP updates, reinstall all the application
programs, and reinstall the application program updates; then FAST Wizard
will read the image file?

I don't want to get into multiple disk partitions and two WinXP's just to
get Internet Explorer 6 to work again!

Thank you

The problem is that the PC you are running the wizard on to save settings
has Service Pack 2 and I am guessing that the new PC does not. There is a
difference in the Wizard itself between the original and the Service Pack 2
version and a new install of XP without SP2 will not read the files created
by an SP2 version of the File and Settings Wizard.
Install SErvice Pack 2 on the new pc and it should read the file.

Service Pack 2 was installed (and updates) before the data file was written
by FAST Wiz, and on the reinstalled WinXP before I tried FAST Wiz to restore
the settings. I did all online updates as well, but I didn't reinstall the
major applications like MS Office.

Thanks for the tip.
