Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

I used F.A.S.TWiz to back up data prior to formatting my c: drive, stored the
data in a separate hard drive connected a secondary. It backed up nearly 60
GB of data in several user profiles, the dat files in each directory are
labeled img00001.dat-img00006.dat, the directories are labeled usmt2.unc,
each under a separate user directory as followes:
d:\users\user1\usmt2.unc\img0000n.dat, d:\users\user2\usmt2.unc\img0000n.dat,
etc.
When I use FASTWiz to read the data back in, I click 'don't need disk', I
select 'other' for the data source, browse to the usmt2.unc directory under
each user, it tells me the specified location does not contain stored
information. I've also tried using the fastconv utility with the following
command:
fastconv /v /s d:\users\user1\usmt2.unc\img00001.dat.
Fastconv responds with 'The information store is invalid.'
Is the situation hopeless, or is there some obscure piece of 'c' code
available that will pull my bacon out of the fire?

Try pointing it at the user directory instead. It will then find the
usmt2.unc directory and the files in it.

Have you updated your newly installed Windows XP to the same status
(service pack and subsequent updates) as the old version was when you
created the backups? If not then you need to do these updates first,
as some of them may/do contain changes to the FATSW program.

Good luck

Sorry, I elected to receive notification by e-mail if my post got answered,
but didn't get the e-mail. I did try to point to the user directory on my
first try, thinking that since I told the wizard to put the information store
in the user directory, it would know to look in any subdirectories it created
in the process. It gave me the same response either way, the specified
location does not contain stored information.
Thanks

Ron, Thank you for this post. I just used FAST and run into exactly this
problem and your post told me what to do. I just pointed to the Drive itself
and sure enough it pulled it in. God Bless You! It would not resond by going
to the directory itself though..

Thanks Again, Danny
