Files copied from CD-RW come with Read-Only attribute

I have discovered that files written on a XP Pro PC to a CD-RW and copied
onto a Win98 pc acquire the Read-Only attribute. How do I copy files with
the original attributes?

CDs are read only. Therefore any file on a CD is read only. Therefore you can't put files on a CD without them becomeing read only.

It has always been so.

Thanks.

So, What if some files are supposed to be read-only and some are not? I
presume then one would have to have a script of some sort that knows which
are which, and resets the attributes as required once all the files are
copied off the CD. Or is there a slicker way of maintaining attributes?

Folders/files copied from CDs to hard drives are
always copied with a "read only" attribute. Once
they're copied onto the hard drive, you must
uncheck the folders/files' read-only attribute.
It's a pain but no solution on the horizon. It's
just the way it is.

They acually "acquired" the read only during the cd burn.
