Files an Transfer Wizard network problem

I'm trying to use the Files and Transfer Wizard to transfer from a
Win2000 PC. Both PC's are connected to a LinkSys router. When I run
the wizard on the Win2000 PC, the Home or Small Office selection is
grayed out and can't be selected.

I did a search, but I can't figure out what the wizard need to enable
the network option. What is the key? What is it looking for or what
can I check to make sure that it will allow the transfer through the
router?

Have you set up a home network yet? I suspect FAST is looking for members
of the same workgroup.

The PC is a laptop and is part of a domain. The domain is accessed
using VPN. But I can connect to the network using the router without
using VPN. I've tried connecting both PC's using the VPN connection,
but that didn't work either.

Do you know of a setting I can change to be able to use the router?

I'm kind of surprised that there isn't more information posted on the
details of how this works.

OK I tried to run the wizard from a PC which is only set up as a
workgroup and the option is there. So it sounds like the wizard makes
some basic assumptions about the connection.

So now a new question. Can I somehow preset the network in some manner
to allow the connection to happen?

I'm trying to avoid the crossover cable, but at this point, I wonder
if that would even work properly.

Crossover cable would be my last choice. Very slow and when I used it I
thought it was flaky. Kept losing the connection. Personally, I use an
external usb2 drive and make darned sure I know what I have selected to
transfer. I keep a 40GB drive I put in an external enclosure just for that
purpose.
