Using this wizard to transfer a client's files to a new PC, I found that when
running the wizard on the old PC and specifying a destination PC on the
network which had run the wizard first, the latter can not be located.
Alternatively, when specifying a shared drive on the new PC when running the
wizard on the old PC, the transfer appears to go through but upon searching
the new PC the files are not found in the folders they should be in but
rather seem to accumulate in a DAT file on the root of the drive and I have
no idea how to use that to extract the files and distribute them to their
proper folders or to apply transfered settings to the proper apps, e.g.
Outlook Express. I have used the wizard successfully to transfer from a
similar old PC to another virtually identical new PC using the first method
to locate the destination and was very pleased with the results, i.e. all
documents in My Documents transferred and all e-mail folders with their
contents transfered in Outlook Express. Are there any suggestions as to what
may be going wrong this time and what I might do besides manual xcopy in the
(DOS) Command window of the old PC to the shared drive in the new PC? Mike W.
