file ans settings transfer wizard

I get a system has encountered and error when I use the wizard to transfer
files and settings from an old windows xp sp2 to a new windows xp sp2 pc
using a USB external drive.

The error occurs when I try to load the settings on to the new pc - near
the end of the process. ( I think after it tries to restore the email
folder).

Then the pc locks and the settings are not transferred

Is this a common problem - are there any other software tools to accomplish
this migration more reliably.

Actually running the FTW from the xp cd is the only way it works..On old pc,
open the wizard,select files settings,etc to save,save data in new folder you
created,once its thru,move to cd,or R.click,zip it,move entire folder to
new pc.
Once on new pc,open wizard from xp cd,browse to unzipped folder,it'll run
fine..
Also,saving to cd creates a user back-up for later use..
