File Type Won't Change App Association

Greetings,

I have XP Pro, which included Jasc Software's Paint Shop Photo Album, which
took over the .jpg extension I was using with another program.

I have tried to change back via Win Explorer (which "fades out" the needed
command) as well as by right clicking the file, etc. (which takes the change
commands but does not execute them).

Any suggestions?

If I understand you. You want the jpg extension to default to some other
program (instead of PaintShop Phot Album.

Bring up Windows Explorer:
Select Tools>Options>File Types

Find the jpg or jepg extension. There you have the option to change the
default to another program.

Hope this helps!

Go to Control Panel - Folder Options - File Types. Look down for JPG
which you will see is listed as Paint Shop Pro Image. Highlight and
delete. You will now be able to Add a new association for it, browsing
to the program you want to use; or set the association up *from* that
program - if it provides for that it would be the better method

Alex,

I tried your suggestion, but the "Delete" button is greyed out for the "jpg"
file type.

Then you will need manual action: Start - Run - Regedit.exe

Open to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg
and in the right pane d-click on Default and clear the pane, OK.
then
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\FileExts\.jpg
and there and its sub-keys also clear Default

That should remove the redirections to Paint Shop, and leave you able to
access, delete, modify the entry in File Types
