file type saving

Every time I try to save a photo my computer automatically tries to save it
as a .bmp. I don't even have the option to save as .jpg. Is this a system
setting? The files I am downloading are .jpg format so I don't understand
the problem.

Please follow the steps below to delete history and temporary Internet
files:

Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then
click the General tab.
Click Delete Cookies, and then click OK.
Click Delete Files, and then click OK.
Click Clear History, and then click Yes.
Click OK.

Why isn't the option to save as a .jpg available?

Cody, what is the source of the file? At the source, is it a BMP file?

You said photo but don't know if it's from a camera or from the internet.
If from the internet, run Disk Cleanup and empty your Temporary Internet
Files.

If a camera, check what format the camera is using to create the pictures.
If using BMP, you might want to consult the camera manual for directions on
how to change this to a different file type. While bitmaps are large, they
can deliver nicer quality than JPG. Another alternative is to go ahead and
save the file as a bitmap. Keep this on hand as the original - move to CD
or DVD for long term storage. Then open file in an image editing program
and use File> Save As to save a "working copy" as a JPG or whatever other
format you prefer.

In Internet Explorer?

This problem occurs if the Temporary Internet Files are full.

1. Start Internet Explorer
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files.
5. When you are prompted to delete all temporary Internet files, click OK.
