A friend wishes to send me some jpegs and an mpeg. He
asked what are my file size limits. How do I find this out
and adjust if necessary?

He's more then likely referring to how large an email your ISP allows you to
send/receive. I find that if I send a file much larger then 20MB's it gets
rejected by my ISP :-)

Your ISP can set limits on the size of mail messages you will receive. So it
depends on what your ISP has set for your mail account. You can have your
friend send the files one at a time and hope they don't go over the limit.

Other then calling your ISP there is no way to check what the limits are or
adjust them yourself.

You can also use DCC File Send in Internet Relay Chat client software or the
File | Send a File or Photo option in Windows Messenger to transfer files.

There's no size limitation, using these methods, that I'm aware of.

Just have him send the file. If it's larger than your ISP will accept it
will be returned to him. You will then have to decide what to do. If you
use PKZIP he can break it into smaller Zip packets that he CAN send. Then
you can use Zip to reassemble the file after you receive it. Or he could
post it on a site where you could go and download it. There's usually no
limit on the size file you can download.... just a limit on the size
attached to an email.

BTW for sending quite sizeable files, Windows Messenger is an excellent
tool. It is faster than email because it does not need to encode the
files into a larger number of bytes that represent characters to be
transmitted by mail;
