File Sharing with a MAC

J

Jack Davis

My wife has PC running Windows XP home edition and a MAC G4 running OS 9.2.
She would like to be able to share files between the two machines. Both
machines have an Ethernet connection and I have a 5 port Linksys switch.

So far I am able to ping the MAC from the PC so the connection is there but
I can not get either machine to display a shared folder.

Are there instructions anywhere on how to make this work or perhaps an
archive of this group I could search. I found some info on the Apple site
but it was for OS X.

Any help would be appreciated.

Google Web Search reveals you need third party software..

Mac OS 9.2 <-> Windows XP Pro file-sharing

Another page:

States:
"Not all Mac users have made the leap to Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar yet. If you
are running Mac OS 9 or earlier you can still have a mixed network
environment, but you will need some additional third-party software. You
have two basic options for full networking, either Thursby Systems’ DAVE
($149, www.thursby.com) or Miramar Systems PC MacLan ($199,
www.miramar.com)."

My suggestion - upgrade to OS X.. Cheaper alternative and better.
