hi im trying to share some files over my network

Ive got files on my pc and im trying to allow my pc to acces the gils
its mp3s

the laptop i have is a business one
ie their are some restrictions
i only just managed to set the laptop up to use my wireless internet

I can see my pc in the workgroup mshome but when i try to acces it thoguht the laptop i get the message:
quitpc is not accessible
There are currently no logon servers avaible to service the logon request

the laptop has windows 2000
and the pc has win xp

i did try to acces the files from another desktop pc and it workes
i tried to take off my av and a squared but still no luck
I tried pinging laptop to desktop throught command prompt and it worked!

im thinking it must be the laptop restrictions!
i cant seem to get both pcs in the same workgroup either
one i cant change the laptop cuz of restrictions and when i try put the pc in the laptops workgroup it just dont work either!

so it must be restrctions

does anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Could be the permission are set differently between Win2k & XP and that their is a conflict between them? It could also be the restrictions on the laptop that is stopping you, do you not have full admin rights on it??

Dear PSD

I had similar problems recently and ended up needing to have someone out to my laptop + desktop. These things are not always that easy to set up especially if the OS systems vary as mine did (XP Home + XP Pro). There's also the added complication of the interface with firewalls and admin rights. Murdoch makes a useful point - do you have admin rights on the lappy?

Mucks posted some helpful stuff via MS Online support but I can't get the shortcut to copy into this message for you.

My guess it that there's something about the lappy that won't let you network with the PC - could be your work IT people have done something to restrict stuff?? Worth asking at work or is that a no-no??

Hope you get it sorted soon cos I know how annonying it was for me till I got my network and printer sharing working.

Love

Gabs :)

hi guys thanks for the reply

I do not have adminisration rights so this may be the reason why its not working

could ask work infact they have already told me indirectly I cant change the domain as it wont allow me to! :(
just thought somone else may have some ideas

even installing programs is a problem! I tried to install Boingo wireless nework program and my sony camera software but both did not work!I guess I just have to accept not to mix business with pleasure!

My only suggestion is to ask your people at work - perhaps others have ideas too??

i think the only way you'll be able to get the laptop to work is if you get one of the tech guys to give you admin rights

Yes just as I first thoght
there is no way around this unless I ask for admin rights
which I do not wish to do well just not yet!!

But in the meantime if you come up with an idea without adminstrations rights please post your solution!
thanks

Sorry, but I suggest you go through the proper channels and ask 'work' if you can mess with it.
