File names don't show up

Hi,

I recently (yesterday) upgraded from W98/SE to XP Home Edition. All
software and hardware tested out and seems to be working well today.

BUT

I downloaded some files (updated drivers etc.) and the files don't show
up in Explorer in the directories they were placed. BUT they ARE there.
When I did a SEARCH for the file they were found in the directory and
I could open the file from the SEARCH window and install the driver.

Yet all the legacy files I had in W98 DO show up properly.
It is only new files that are not there.

Then I noticed other downloaded files (.avi's etc.) were also not
showing up but were also found with SEARCH in the directory I had chosen.

I created a file in MS-Word and saved it - and that file DID show up.
It seems it is only "Downloaded" files whose names are missing.

Any reason? Any way I can get these files to show up?

I tried changing the VIEW options in the directories to be much less
restrictive and they still did not show up.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Ah Ha! I tried again, realizing I was using Firefox browser to do the
downloads. When I switched to IE, sure enough the file names appear.

BUT I would still like to solve the problem - anyone know what Firefox
and Windows Xp is not doing that they should be? Thanks, Mike
