I have been having problems with file explorer crashing
without any error meesages. I have recently discovered
that in the event viewer it seems that everytime the file
explreoer crashes i get a series of 3 info events.

1 )The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service was
successfully sent a start control. event ID 7035

2) The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service entered the
running state. event ID 7036
3) The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service entered the
stopped state. event ID 7036

during the crash, the task bar disappears, along with any
open window, then mometns later, task bar reappears and
open windows (minus any file explorer window)
can anyone help me eliminate the problem

You could always try disabling the IMPAI service to see what the
effect is. It's only really used if you use XP's built-in burning
service. What are you doing in Explorer when the problem occurs?

I tried that, after I disabled the imapi service, I
started getting error messages in teh event viewer:

"DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either
because it is disabled or because it has no enabled
devices associated with it. " attempting to start the
service ImapiService with arguments "-Service" in order
to run the server:
{520CCA63-51A5-11D3-9144-00104BA11C5E}"

and I still lost file explorer

As to what I am doing at the time, it still appears
random. sometimes I can browsing through file explorer,
trying to open files or directories, other times I can be
in another program doing something else, i.e word or
powerpoint.

It occurs sporadically and randomly.
