File and folder tasks

When I open a folder (photos, document etc) the file and folder task options
are not there. They used to be on the left side of the folder, but now they
are missing and I can't make them reappear.

Please someone tell me what to do to restore this info.

Hi philosaylr,

Open any folder and go to Tools>Folder Options>General tab. Ensure that, in
the Tasks section, "Show common tasks in folders" is selected, then click on
Apply (if you had to change the option in the Tasks section) then OK.
If the above does not then display the Files and Folder tasks sidebar, go to
Tools>Folder Options>File Types tab. Locate and click on to select "(NONE)
Folder", then click on Advanced button. Ensure that "open" is selected
(highlighted), click on the Set Default button, click on OK then Close.
Close the open folder. Now whenever you open a folder, the left sidebar
should default to the Files and Folder tasks view in the sidebar.

Patti, thanks for trying to help. I followed your instructions, but could
not set "open" as the default. I tried every which way, but it always went
back to "explore". Any more ideas? Again, thanks for your help.

A somewhat drastic two-step method -
1. Goto Tools > Folder Options > View and click Reset All Folders. This should bring back Open as the default action for folders.
2, Goto Tools > Folder Options > General and select Show common tasks in folders.

The disadvantage of this is that you will lose any customized views that you personally have set for particular folders.
