Few problems

Having a few problems with XP. First when turning my
computer on the screen does not light up unless I pull the
power lug out and put it back in. Secondly when I log in
no icons or toolbars show up and I get an error message
saying "Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". It then just
stays there and the only think I can do is ctrl+alt+del
and get the task manager...Nothing else responds...Any
suggestions?
