Faxing

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a way to fax multiple
documents to one recipient using Word 2000. I know it can
be done in Outlook using attachments, however I want to do
it from Word, using a fax machine that is hooked up
externally.

Thanks in advance,
Traci

Hi,

Not sure if you can do it from Word, it seems to act on single documents for
printing etc.

You could cut/paste all the documents into a single document (ie join them
all together) and send that, but I guess that's not really what you want.

If you select a bunch of Word files in 'File Explorer' then right click on
them,
You should get an option in the little menu to 'Send To'

Depending on how your Fax has been set up, 'Fax Recipient' or somthing
similar may be in that list...?

Cheers,
ChrisM

Also try this:

In the 'File Open' dialog, you can select several documents, then click the
'Tools' button this will let you PRINT multiple documents, might work for
faxing as well...

Word does not have any inherent faxing ability. It only has the option to
access fax drivers in Windows. You send a fax by 'printing' to the fax
driver. Whether you can fax attachments will be dependent on your fax
software. This is not something I have done myself, but Winfax seems capable
of this.

Thanks so much for the reply! This was so close, but I
couldn't get it to work. I can definitely print the two
documents when selecting multiple files, however I can't
select the printer (or fax) that I want to use. The way
that I have been faxing via Word 2000 is to have the
document open, and in the File menu, click print, and it
is there that I am able to select a fax (which is actually
a multi-function printer/fax). But i just haven't had any
luck being able to attach another document for faxing this
way. I also thought of merging the two documents into
one, but that's not really what I want either. If there
are any other ideas, I'm open to test them. Again, I
appreciate your help with this.

The way that I have been faxing is to have the document
opened, and click the file menu, and select print, then I
select the fax (it's a multi-function printer/fax) from
the dropdown list. I was just wondering if there was a way
to attach another document and then fax it that way
without having to use 3rd party software. I appreciate
the help.

Couldn't you simply add the second document to the end of the first and
print one bigger document?

Traci,

All I can suggest is that you set your default printer to your 'Fax Printer'
before doing the 'Multiple Selection' thing:

Start -> Settings -> Printers

Right Click on your Fax Printer and choose 'Set As Default Printer'

Other than that, can't really think of much else. :-(

Cheers,

ChrisM.

Just thought of somthing else you could try.

If you open up the Printers window (the one where you selected 'Set As
Default Printer')

Then open up a File Explorer window and navigate to the folder with your
files in.

Arrange your windows so that you can see both at once, then select a bunch
of files in the File Explorer window and drag/drop them onto your Fax
Printer in the Printers window. (This works for printing, never tried it for
faxing though)

What fax sending software do you have? The other option is to have a look
for some Add-In to word that will interface with your fax software, I had a
quick look on Google, there are some shareware solutions from about 15 quid,
depending on what you've got running your fax.

Cheers ;-)

This is true, I could do that, but it'd be too easy. Just
kidding. But I think that if I get to wanting to fax more
than just two documents, it might start to get a little
hairy.

You know, it's really weird, this sometimes works for
sending two documents, but it hangs when 3 documents are
sent to the fax, and will usually just fax the 1st of the
three. It was definitely worth a shot though. I might be
able to use this method... if I can figure out why it's
flaky.

Thanks!!!

As it seems, it does not work this way. I'll have 2
documents that I select, and then when I try to fax it (I
have set the fax as my default "printer"), it kind of
freezes everything, and it all hangs until I close the
windows. Basically, it doesn't work very well. I think I
may have gotten it to work once. I think I'll stick to
your previous suggestion.

Thank you,
Traci
