Faxing to other fax machines

F

Flush

I am running windows XP Home and 3Com 56K 90V modem.
I cannot send faxes to fax machines without a sending
error.
I can however send a fax to another PC based fax.
I can phone to my PC and the fax does answer.
I can phone out to my other land line and the phone does
ring.

What do I need to do to configure my system so I can fax
to stand alone fax machines and how do I do it?

Thank you

Hi Flush,

Have you tried multiple recieving machines or just one?
Have you updated the fax modem dirver set?

The fact that you are able to send to pc-based faxes, and are able to
receive indicates that the problem likely lies in the receiving end.

Force outgoing fax speed to 9600bps - higher speeds are brittle, Tho
usually if this is the issue, you get the reverse mileage; fax to fax
machines OK, fax to PCs (left at max speed) fail.

First of all, see if it's all fax machines or just one bad one. Fax
machines vary, and some can be pretty flaky. A fax machine that's out
of paper will also give errors.

Also, if the target machine is voice/fax, see if it works if forced to
fax only (or if user manually receives your call as a fax). In fax
only mode, the machine may volunteer a fax probe tone to get things
going; in voice/fax it may wait for yours, which will fail if it
doesn't recognise it or if your modem doesn't offer one.
