Faxing & Digital Phone Lines

Can someone explain to me why I cannot use my pc fax to send over a
digital phone line but can use a free standing fax to do so?

Our Dell pc says the fax cannot be connected to digital phone service.

It may be that your fax machine has the capability to use analog or digital
lines. A pc modem can only use analog lines and can be destroyed if plugged
into a digital line.

There are adapters that are available. Do a Google search.
