fax svc

since i switched my prtr to usb port i lost my fax svc...does any one have a
fix for this????keeps telling me to install a fax prtr( must be looking at
com1 )
PLS HELP

A little more detail about "lost my fax svc" would help. Do you still have
a fax printer showing in "Printers and Faxes". Have you tried to re-install
it? If you did, what happened?

No i dont have a fax prtr showing in the "printers and faxes" I have tried to reinstall the Fax svc but no sucses it tries to do it but then stops in the middle of loading and keeps telling me " Install a fax prtr"

Assuming you have a fax modem installed and it shows up without errors in
Device Manager and in Phone and Modem options, you may have a problem with
security database corrruption:

You cannot add a Windows component in Windows XP

You can either:

1. Get the hotfix mentioned in the KB article and install it. Microsoft
usually waives any charges for support calls to get supported hotfixes
listed in Knowledge Base articles.

2. Try this procedure using the Esentutl.exe utility mentioned in the KB
article to recover from security database corruption:

I can report that the Esentutl utility has corrected the problem in a number
of cases, HOWEVER, note that Microsoft does NOT recommend that you use the
utility and would prefer you try the hotfix.
