Gentlemen,
I really didn't want to start a TROLL like thread here.
I did get the answer to my question. If I want to use
Winfax, I will have to unplug my DSL Modem and plug
the line into the Fax/Modem on the 56K hookup. And
then use it as I would have done if I had bought the program
prior to getting DSL. I already had a Free Fax program but
had uninstalled it when I got DSL. I can buy WinFax Pro
for about $30 so I will do that when I get around to it.
Thanks for answering my question.
I appreciate the feedback, but I didn't chime in before this
because that one fellow sort of did come off like a USENET Nazi. :O)

Keep in mind that you will need a Z-Blocker filter in the
line just like for your phone for a regular modem to work.
Otherwise the "noise" on the line will prevent the FAX/Modem
from working. The FAX/Modem will be connected to the phone
side of the Z-Blocker filter. Most Z-Blocker filter now
have a port for both the phone and the DSL modem so you do
not have to disconnect anything unless you already have a
phone in that port. In that case, you can use a splitter to
connect both the phone and the FAX/Modem which is what I do.
Now, about WinFAX; I have the latest version which I have
attempted to get working with WindowsXP Pro for several
weeks. The WinFAX Lite free edition has the same problem.
It will work just fine until it is time to hang up. It does
not hang for some reason on some modems on my machines. I
swapped a couple of modems and find that it works better
with some than others. I think the "noise" on the DSL line
is interpreted by either WinFAX or the modem as legitimate
line actrivity and it maintains the line open instead of
hanging up. Some of the modems appears to tolerate a noisy
line better than others. If anyone has a better theory, I
would sure like to hear it. I have the XP FAX applet
installed but, have not taken the time to play with it to
see what it's problems may be.
Good Luck
