FAX Question

I just started using a computer for sending and receiving faxes.
Is there a software/hardware solution that will make the computer answer
only if it is a fax coming in. I know stand alone fax machines can do this,
but I like getting my faxes on my computer so I can email them out or refax
them without wasting paper/toner.

I have a Compaq Presario 5838 with the factory installed fax/modem running
Win XP Pro.

You can set your system sounds so it will ring when you receive a fax:
Start/Control Panel/Sounds and audio...../Audio tab
Program Events/Phone tools/Alarm/select ring.

XP doesn't support distinctive ring, thus there is no
native capability to do what you want. There are external
devices available that will route fax calls to the
computer--use Google.

Sorry, but what you're referring to is Distinctive Ring, which isn't
supported under *ANY* NT-based OS. You would need to call your telco and ask
them to enable Identicall (or a similar service) on your line.

For clarification - and further information - please repost to the
