fax fails

I have a problem with faxing in Windows XP using native WinXP fax, a bizarre
problem.

The problem first appeared with an internal Dynalink LT Win Modem. Naturally
I assumed it must be the modem and went and replaced it with a Netcomm
Roadster II Serial External. However the problem remained.

Essentially when sending faxes, the modem dials, connects and attempts to
handshake and clear the line. Not matter what it just fails to clear the
line and the fax fails.

Also, i must unhook DECT phone to even get a dial tone, even though the
phoen line has a splitter to both computer and phone.

On the old PC the internal modem went AOK on the same phone line, that was
on Windows 98.

Any ideas?

Consider the possibility that the problem is not on your end or at least
not intentionally. Not all fax equipment can receive from PC fax programs.
Whenever fax transmissions are critical to a user, I recommend a standalone
fax machine instead of software faxing.

have tried using different numbers. It is using the same phone line that i
used on old pc to do exactly the same thing. Initially tried using old modem
(which was in old computer and reinstalled into new computer) thought it was
modem so then changed to an external but still with the same problem.
