Fax Problems

I'm on windows XP and have the fax console. I've
installed pack 2. On the second ring of an incoming call,
the modem/fax takes over. There is no way to control it
(turn off, recieve fax, etc.) Does anybody have an idea
for me.

One other thing, I went into safe mode and opened fax
console. the first thing that is displayed, "Printer is
not installed"

Request help

What is startup type for the Fax Service in Administrative Tools > Services?
Are you sure you disabled automatic fax reception? If so, how?

Russ, I goto Fax Console/devices/intel 537ep v9x dfv pci
modem/receive/and select manual. If I turn the computer
off, the modem doesn't take over on the first rings but
once it starts it dominants. One way to get phone calls
is to launch classic phones,BRVP,/reception/ and select
manual. However, Ive sent fax from my old computer,
win95, but cannot recieve faxes from my business
associates

If you had a second fax program installed on this partition, Windows XP Fax
will not work as expected. Removing that fax program may not remove the
conflicting modem commands.

So there is no hope to solve these conflicts. Dell
installed the classic phone. I just recently bought it,
like two to three weeks ago. I was still using windows 95
and the fax worked fine on it. Shouldn't someone from
microsoft or someone from dell or someone from intel
collaborate and solve these conflicts?!? Is there anyway
to go back and make the modem compatible w/ win 95?

I have no documentation on how to solve conflicts produced by other fax
software. Your OEM would have to advise you on that. Common sense would
suggest ensuring that your modem is on the Windows XP HCL list and if so
uninstalling all fax software, uninstalling/reinstalling your fax modem,
then installing Windows XP Fax if you are trying to switch fax programs.

Implied but perhaps not expressly stated in the above is the fact that you
should be taking this up with the OEM. They are the ones who decided to
provide and support an alternate fax program to Windows XP Fax. Accordingly,
only they can advise you as to whether they have also provided you with the
equipment and software necessary to switch from BVRP to Windows XP Fax. All
I can tell you is that you should not try to use both programs.

Russ, do you want to here something sad(I'm sure you
don't, I wouldn't). I have talked to Dell and I have
talked to BRVP and now I've talked to Microsoft. So far
nobody has helped me with the modem problem and finally I
realize, nobody can or better yet, will. I am and was in
the baby boomer's generation. I grew up on a midwestern
farm which taught me a lot about common sense, self-
reliance and a lot about how mechanical things worked.
You talked to OEM's, implement stores, people who could
help you, direct, not in emails. The best way to get out
of problems on emails, blame the other guy.
Unfortunately, this is typical of our current society.

Russ, since I quit using fax console and made the brvp
the dominant fax, I can choose what to do with an
incoming call, explain that. By the way, when I used the
fax console,(I had removed BRVP), the modem tried to
receive a fax on the second ring. It doesn't now since
fax console is not a chosen windows componet, explain
that in terms that make sense or should I say common
sense!
