Fax problems

Roy

I was having problems with the fax program that comes
with XP. It would send fine but I got error messages on
receiving anything (yes I enabled the receive option. I
tried to uninstall just the fax program and now even
though I've reinstalled a fax printer, all I get when I
attempt to open the fax console is an error message that
says <This application failed to open because FXSAPI.dll
was not found. Reinstalling the application may correct
the problem>. How do I reinstall it? I open my XP disk
and select the option right below Install XP. Believe it
says something like <install optional components>. That
opens a box with the components listed. The Fax Viewer
is already checked. Can someone straighten all this out
for me? Thanks..

Sorry for the delay in getting back...Yes, I finally was
able to uninstall and then reinstall the fax viewer. I
did need my XP disk.

You could try re-installing fax afresh from the XP disc. If Fax appears as
ticked in the optional components manager, first un-install it. To be doubly
sure also delete all fax binaries from %windir%\system32 using -
del /s %windir%\system32\fxs*.*

Then the fax option should appear unchecked. Now try installing fax from the
disc. Things should work fine.
