Fatal system error

E

Ernie Lane

My computer won't boot. I get the Windows XP logo screen, then it goes
dark (I don't get the user selection screen) and, after a while, gives
me an error in what looks like DOS:

STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error).
The windows logon process system terminated unexpectedly with a status
of 0xc0000130 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

What does this mean and what should/can I do?

You could try the usual: Press F8 during the early
boot phase, then select Safe Mode or Last Known
Good Configuration.

That Knowledge Base article refers to a status of 0xc0000005, whereas
the error message I got refers to a status of 0xc0000130. Does that
make a difference?

I've tried them. I still get the error message.

c000021a error code is the main.

I can't imagine that this is an FQDN thing. But you never know.

Also, that KB article seems to apply to Windows 2000. Do you think this
stuff also pertains to XP?

Now, I had been able to boot up. Then, I did two things:

- Downloaded updates (I got that little popup over the system tray that
updates were available. I think that whatever it did was completed, but
it's just possible that I might have done a computer shutdown before
they were done. Could this be a cause? If I shut down, I did it
properly -- start button, select what I want to do, all that. I would
think that something would be built in to Windows not to allow a
shutdown while updates were in process.

- Connected to my home wireless network.

Do you think either of these two could be the culprit?

Addendum: I turned off my wireless access point so it couldn't log on
to the network. I got the same error when I tried to boot up, so it
apparently isn't the wireless thing.

I appear to have the same error message/problem. I am not able to boot up
even in safe mode. I'm working on my laptop. How did you resolve this? I
understand I need to download the service pack but how can I do it if I can't
get the computer on.

I'm now having this same error. I have XP and all updates are done. Dell
told me that this is a MS Service Pack issue and I need the most current one,
but I have SP 2 which MS says is most current. What can I do to fix this?

What fatal system error? You have posted your message as a response to
someone else's thread and didn't quote any of the previous message so we
don't know the context of the error. This is a newsgroup, not a forum; many
people use a newsreader to view the messages and only download the recent
messages so the previous messages in the thread are not visible.

As a general rule you should not post a new question as an add on to someone
else's thread. Repost your question as a new thread and supply exact
wording of the error message, the context, when it occurs, info on the
system, any changes to the system before this happened, whether it running
was well before this, the malware status of the system and how that's
checked.

See this link on making a good newsgroup post and resubmit.

I obviously was replying because I got the same error as the OP, which was:

STOP: c000021a (fatal system error)
Windows login process terminated unexpectedly with status 0xc0000139
Shut down.

But thanks for the complete lesson on how to use a NEWSGROUP. :(

You didn't quote what the error was. Besides posting onto another thread is
called hijacking and should be avoided. Start your own thread. Your
hardware is different as are the conditions of the computer and what changes
you made to the system before the problem happened. You still haven't
posted any of this info.

Here's some help with windows stop error messages

Rock, you are incredibly annoying and not helpful in one bit. I'm writing
about a specific error code, if you can't help, go away.

In my last reply I gave a link to a website that has info on stop error
messages. The one you're receiving is listed there. It was at the end of
the reply. Did you go there? Did you read any of it?

I'm sorry but it's hard to give focused help when you hijack an old thread,
don't quote the content of that thread, and don't provide any relevant
information.

All I've tried to do is help you on how to best get help in a newsgroup.
There are conventions and protocols which exist to facilitate the use of the
newsgroups.

By the way it would be better if you kept this in the original thread. It
just so happens I remember it so I can respond knowing what you are talking
about.

One problem you have in finding the original thread is that you're using the
web interface to access what is really a newsgroup. The web interface is
lousy at best. You will have a better experience accessing newsgroups using
a newsreader. XP comes with one, Outlook Express. Here is a link on how to
setup OE for newsgroups. I have also included a link to a list of MS public
newsgroups. This one is microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.

Ok, sorry I see you did post to the original thread. I thought you had
started a new one because you didn't quote anything from the thread to show
the context. It would still be worthwhile to look into using a newsreader
instead of the web interface. When replying to a message it's a good idea
to quote at least part of the message to which you reply to show the
context.

I use a newsreader and only download the recent messages so I don't see the
previous messages in the thread. This is common when with use of a
newsreader hence the reason why one should quote some of the message.

Good luck.
