fatal error

When I open a new e-mail in Outlook and go to set which e-mail account it is
sending from I get a "Microsoft Office Word" error box error that says
"Unable to complete the operation. A fatal error has occurred in Outlook".
Does anyone know what is causing this & how to fix it?

I have used Outlook for a while now & have not changed anything. This
problem just started out of the blue.

Thanks for your help!

If you had to post as many of the same question (Outlook version, please?) as many times a day as I and other helpers have, you would sigh too. It is an obvious help in troubleshooting that too many people omit. And it takes up my valuable volunteer time to ask. So there <g>

Have you applied SP-2? Not SP-3 as I have heard that there are some problems with that SP. If you have already applied SP-2, have you tried a Detect and Repair? (Help->Detect and Repair).

This exact same thing happened to me within the last few days. (Office
ver2003) I ran a Detect and Repair, AND I had already downloaded SP3.
However, I then downloaded SP2 even though it said all the contents were
already contained in SP3. When I ran Detect and Repair again, it cleared up
the error.

It's worth mentioning that I checked both options to reset settings when
asked, and, I had to create the accounts all over again in Outlook.

Thanks for the help clearing this up. Do you know what caused the error so
that if it's anything I did, I can be sure to watch out for it in the future?
