Outlook Error: Unable to complete the operation...

I am trying to select a contact for a new e-mail. When I click on the
"To..." Button I get

Title: Microsoft Office Word
Message: Unable to complete the operation. A fatal error has occured in
Outlook.

Outlook then restarts and wants to send an error report. This consistantly
happens
time and time again. Restarting Outlook and killing Winword doesn't help.

As a final step I dumped my contacts to a file and then deleted them all,
exited
and then restarted Outlook. I then create a new message clicked on the
"To..."
button again and got the same message.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
