What I am wondering is why the Win XP Formating tool put
that limit on it and not on Win 98. Was it because they
didn't decide it was insufficent for above 32 GB until
now?
 
The limitation isn't in the format tool, it is in the FAT file system. You
can get around this by creating partitions smaller than 32GB. NTFS does not
have this limitation.
 
And as I answered Bob in another group, yes, anything over 32 gig is way,
way inefficient :)
 
Thanks, Doug, I was really unaware of that. I was always under the
assumption that was a FAT issue. I apologize to the OP for the
misinformation.
