FAT32 to NTFS

If I convert from FAT32 to NTFS will the I still be able to view digital pics
I've backed up on CD in FAT32, or, for that matter, any other data I've
stored on CD in FAT32?

Hi,

Yes. The CD's use a different file system than either of those. What file
system the operating system is using has no bearing on readability of CD's.

Nothing you've stored on a CD is in FAT32. CDs use the Compact Disc
File System (CDFS).

WinXP can read FAT12 (the file system used on 3.5" diskettes), FAT16,
FAT32, CDFS (the file system used on most CDs), and NTFS with equal
facility. Further, the file system on any one disk/partition or
diskette has absolutely no affect upon the operating system's ability to
read other compatible file systems on other disks/partitions.

First of all, note that the data on your CDs isn't FAT32. CDs use
their own file system, different from either NTFS or FAT32.

Second, you apparently think that when you convert to NTFS, you
are converting the entire operating system to NTFS. That is not
correct. You convert a drive (or partition) to NTFS. Windows XP
can simultaneously use any combination of NTFS, FAT32, FAT16,
FAT12, and the CD file system.

So the answer to your question is yes, you can still access your
CDs.

CD's use neither fat32 nor NTFS. CD's have their own file system standard.

XP can access files stored on either type file system; the files remain
the same, just stored differently
