Fast User Switching is beginning to be a pain the neck!

My wife and I both use this machine and we both have administrator accounts.
When I am logged on and she wants to look at her emails we use Fast User
Switching and she logs on, does what she wants to do and then tries to log
out. The machine hangs and the only way to get out of it is to manually
power down with the on-off switch. If we switch back t my account and then
shut down via Windows Shutdown command, we get the warning that other users
are logged on, etc. I just ignore it and shut the system down and everything
is just fine.

What is wrong? We run Windows XP Home, SP 2 with all fixes and operate
behind a wireless router firewall. This is a Dell Laptop that is well tuned,
spyware free, at least to the extent that Adaware, Spybot, Spy Sweeper and
Xoftspy can see nothing, and Norton says no viruses.

I have heard that fast user switching can be tempermental, but this is a
nuisance, since I often have open applications running and though I haven't
lost any data yet, it could happen. Anybody able to help on this, please??

It's likely her mail app is running background tasks to compact, or
otherwise modify her mail info store folder

Thanks Mark. I don't know if that is the problem but her OE program is not
open when I try this. Is it possible that it is caused by the wireless
network, being part of the two computer workgroup? I know that being part of
a Windows Domain screws it up. I can open Task Manager and shut her down
there without a problem, but then can't switch to her account again unless I
reboot. This whole thing is weird. I recall seeing, somewhere, that Fast
User Switching can be a problem but don't remember the situation. I hope
someone else will also look at this post.

When my subscription to Spy Sweeper runs out it goes in the can! I have had
more problems with the thing than it is worth. The new Microsoft
Anti-spyware Beta-1 product works just great. I will use it, Spyware
Blaster--both in real time--and also sweep with Ad-aware and SpyBot. This
may not be the best, but it does keep most of the junk out. Oh, also, CWS
Shredder is part of the package.

One other Spy Sweeper bug--it will prevent Drive Image 7 from opening if it
is a second or more opening of the program during any session. You hve to
deselect the Spy Shield Option for it to run properly. Lord knows how many
other bugs are in this thing. It is expensive, a pain and it's going, maybe
even today.!!!

Thanks for the info--sorry I'm late getting back to you but other things
have occupied my time.

I'm tired of Webroot. I uninstalled Spy Sweeper and rely solely on Microsoft
Antispyware in realtime and Spyware Blaster. The problem went away as soon
as I killed Spy Sweeper.
