FAST not working

....which really slows things down. Day three:
I have two puters, both running XP pro, SP3; attempting to run file and
settings transfer between them. Although there's a functioning network,
neither machine gives me the option to use the network (it's greyed out). So
I save the data to an external hard drive, and then move the drive to the new
machine. I get the message: "The location that you specified does not contain
stored information." The folder has two files in it, one called
"img00001.dat" (200 megs), the other called "status"(1 kb). Repeated attempts
yield the same result. Sad.

A "functioning network" doesnt always mean "w/o a problem"..Youre
network,as in internet or home network..If its the first you have, then
ethernet
cable wont work, you need "crossover" cable.Although it looks just like
ethernet
cable, its not, purchase at most pc shops for about 10.00
Also,xp FTW never seems to run unless you always open it thru the xp cd,the
tools option doesnt cut it..Also,open FTW from cd,select data to
collect,collect in
new folder you created, once thru, move to cd,set pc as old computer.

Thanks, Andrew, you solved it. The File transfer wizard on the install CD
worked fine. The one on the hard drive was worthless.

Maybe MS Windows is actually a game, not an operating system. You just have
to know the right cheats.

Actually, I struck out anyway -- the wizard didn't transfer my Outlook
settings at all. So I'll scribble the email settings for 10 accounts down on
a piece of paper, and then move all the files manually.

Perserverance... :)

The 'secret' is to use the same version of the F.A.S.T. Wizard. By using
the CD in both cases - you did this. You could do the same by locating and
installing the proper patches on both machines. ;-)

And Outlook has its own export/import.

I have run into this same problem and have already re-imaged my hard drive.
I know I was running Home XP SP2 on the old image and am on SP2 on the new.
I don't know what patch/build though. Any way to tell or am I likely out of
luck?
thx, Dean
